Quick Description: He's a pretty big snake, despite being part of the smaller of the two sub-species of sea serpent. From nose tip to tail, he's under half a football feild, his entire body flexable, lean and streamlined. But he's certainly nothing to scoff at, taller and more massive than any mortal snake any human might dream about. He can tower up to varying heights, all of which are high above the typical creature's head, staring down at almost everyone with that sharp glare of his, rows of pointed teeth shining in the sunlight with a malicious grin. He's a scary-looking dude, his face crossed by battle scars and his body lined with flexable spikes. Seems odd that a snake might have spikes along the bottom of his body but they are for protection, limp and harmless until he chooses them to be otherwise, able to pump blood down the center shaft of each one, stiffening it. The spines that hold the thick orange membranes upon his back work very similarly, mobile and shifting to either raise or lower the bright additions as he sees fit. For more details, please see the images section...
You'll be sure to notice he has no gills. He breathes air but can hold his breath for days if he needs to. You'll also notice his belly is flat like a land serpent's, meaning he is amphibious and not bound directly to the water. He can indeed travel on land but tries to avoid it since he's quick to dehydrate and pretty slow and sluggish when not in his element...
[[… Magic…]]
Element: Water
Alignment: Evil enough
Attack: Massacre
Description: Using the sharp edges of the fins on his back and the strength of the spines that support them, he can do some serious sheering damage to an opponent whether it be a boat or another creature. This trick only really works in the water though and, if he misses, he has to circle around completely before attacking again, which can leave his underside vulnerable...
Other Abilities: He has quite a bite in those jaws, not to mention the power of constriction common to all snake-like beings, a violent tail thrash and the spikes on his belly. But he has no magical abilities, to be honest...
Power source: Humidity. The more water in the air, the easier it is for him to actually attack and to attack quickly. It also depends on sunlight, since he is cold-blooded but the fins and sails help to provide energy when the light is low...
[[… Character…]]
Stereotype:
Das is a pretty hard guy to figure out, with a whole bunch of needless, stupid, yet strangely significant little hidden traits that most only discover through conversation with him.
First and for most, Kai loves him some females... of any species. His kind has a "thing" for virgin sacrifices, as you may or may not be aware, and Kai is no different, though he is less likely to eat them than most other serpents... if you know what I mean. So, he tends to have his fun scaring nearby fishermen and any villages he can reach from the water, hoping to spur them into offering him one of their daughters.
Now you're thinking "oh, this guy is twisted sick". He is, I'm not going to deny it, but he's not as twisted as you might think. Usually, after toying with the human girl and doing... whatever he can think to do with her, he lets her on her way, rather than eating her. The sacrificed generally come back unharmed. Shaken and mortified, but unharmed. Kaikano holds females in too high a regard to eat them... ever. Any female of any sort gets his full attention, no matter what. If he's hunting in a pod of dolphins, he'll pick of any male that happens across his path but even a weak, vulnerable female in labor or something would go completely unnoticed. If he hunts on land, he'd be sure to pick a buck out of a family of deer, leaving the doe unharmed. Only children break the gender barrier, since he considers children to be boys and girls, not males and females. He has no problem eating girls...
As such, females get to see the more... gentle side of the sea snake. Be that a good or a bad thing, I'll leave that decision up to you. He tends to speak to them more quietly, listens to what they have to say, laughs at their jokes and all that. He's a charmer, slithering around them and laying his head on the ground or lower if it's possible, to appear less threatening. It doesn't really work since he's a pretty big snake but he tries. He's so respectful of females that he will tell them his real name. A chick asks him what his name is, he will answer "Kaikano", the closest thing to the truth, which is very odd for him...
Males are a totally different story. Put a dude in front of Das here and he seems more kaniving than charming, a sly grin always showing his razor sharp teeth and his gaze always narrowed in a mischievious way. Like females, males are considered play things, toys, but not in the manner. No, males are fun to get angry and the sea snake does a very good job of testing the last nerve of just about anyone, his observent nature and cynical questionable humor enough to drive anyone off the wall. Not to mention his habit of stealing the mates of others... with the "other" sitting right there. So enemies are not in short supply with this one, though neither are friends in truth. Though he tends to trick and fool a lot of people, and can be rather malicious, he's not running around trying to harm anyone. Sure, he's pretty sick but in that child molester sort of way, not in that chainsaw massacre sort of way...
Sly like a fox really, he can be the most clever trickster you've ever seen, charismatic enough to sell ice to an iglo. Yes, I know the term is usually "sell ice to an eskomo" but Das is even better than that. He's so good at talking and mind games, that he can sell ice to an inanimate object. So watch yourself with him, he may not be an old sea snake but he's a wise and very very clever one...
